  ‘What the heck is that?!’ exclaimed Sue as she removed her coat and hung it neatly on the coat rack in the hall. She was still staring as her husband finally appeared at the top of the stairs. On the console table in the hall was a very dirty skull with a little bronze crown glued to it. The glue had clearly not been applied very carefully as it had dripped and oozed out down the back of the skull. Sue wrinkled her nose in disgust. ‘Hmm?’ said Joe not really registering what she meant straight away, then he realised as he saw her peering at it. ‘Oh, THAT!’ ‘Well??’ She said impatiently, positively glaring at Joe over her driving glasses.   Victor and Gerald Summerfield were twins, but you really would not have known. Born just twenty minutes apart and non-identical, Victor the first one to come into the world protesting loudly and then Gerald, so quietly, the midwife had slapped his legs to ensure he took his first breath. That was pretty much how it continued, Victor was the outspoken boy at school who always got into fights, he was the dominant one from day one. The twins mother Connie showed little interest in them as they grew up, preferring the company cigarettes and alcohol and very odd men.   She would complain loudly about how the boys ‘had ruined her figure’ to anyone who listened, even in front of them.
